LINCOLN – It doesn’t take long to realize that sitting at a desk doing homework gets old and tedious. The brain tends to turn to mush.
Sometimes we all need a break, but what can we do that isn’t expensive and doesn’t require a lot of equipment?
You don’t have to look long to find a great public resource here in Lincoln. It’s called the Great Plains Trail Network.
The Great Plains Trail Network is a system of hard surface and crushed rock paths in and around Lincoln of over 128 miles and still growing.
By hiking or biking these trails, you see Lincoln and surrounding communities in a whole new way. You will notice the changing skyline for starters.
By biking near the Haymarket in downtown Lincoln, you will see major construction projects taking place. If you ride over the new 27th and Dudley Street bridge, you will see new brick artwork.
And if you go outside of Lincoln, you will experience the changing of the season.
These paths are maintained by the Lincoln Parks & Recreation Department. Maps and more information about the paths can be downloaded at Lincoln.ne.gov/parks/parks facilities.
By visiting this web site you will also find additional park facilities that you can experience for free or at reduced cost.
