As always, the SCC Beatrice Maintenance staff has been busy.
In July they had started building new offices for student advisors. The project lasted for two months and was completed by September. As a result there are three new offices in Kennedy Center now.
“It was a good idea to put TRIO, student advising and Student Retention offices in one,” said Lila Thomas, academic advisor at SCC.
Thomas found her new office very comfortable. “I like my new office,” she said. “It is located in a quiet place, so that no noise can disturb me while I am working.”
Student Retention Officer Margarita Feyerherm also likes her new office. “The location of office is good,” she stated. “Students who need to meet me can find me easily.”
According to Superintendant Charlie Whitehead, “There were also several projects done in the Truman Center. Maintenance crew replaced a door in room T-102 by a double one so that it became easier now to move in and out a piano and other heavy musical stuff.”
The door removed from room T-102 afterwards was installed to room T-207.
Whitehead added that “besides aforementioned projects, last week we had some work in Washington Hall putting the utility room for Resident Managers.”
Another major project is the recycling program at SCC.
“We collect plastic bottles and aluminum cans in special containers which are spread upon the campus,” said Whitehead. “We also collect cardboard from the bookstore within any other types of used paper. Then we take all collected stuff to the Beatrice Recycling Center, where it can be beneficially utilized. We repeat the same procedure for a couple of times per month”
At the same time, the campus maintenance crew runs many ongoing projects.
Recently, the crew removed deceased pine trees from campus in order to prevent possible contamination and pollution.
And, as Whithead noted, winter is fast approaching, which means they will be even busier.
