Storm Softball Wins Doubleheader on the Road

With the weather causing numerous changes and cancellations to the softball schedule, Storm Softball traveled to Nevada, Mo., on Wednesday, Feb. 25, to play Cottey College in a doubleheader.

The game had originally scheduled been scheduled for the previous Sunday.

In game one, Nicole Zelinski pitched a four-hitter, walking one and striking out six on the way to a 14-1, five-inning game.

On offense, Kristin Thomas hit her first home run of the year over the left-center fence, and the team hit 10 doubles led by Melissa Foley with four and Megan Hartman with two.

The lone run scored by Cottey College was an unearned run.

In game two, Megan Hartman came on to pitch another five-inning game, leading the team to a 9-0 win.

Hartman walked two, struck out eight and allowed two hits as she lowered her fourth in the nation era to 0.88.

On offense, the Storm hit three more doubles, and Alexis Graewe hit her first home run, a towering shot over the right field fence.

As a team, Storm Softball is 27th in the nation with a 318 batting average. Outfeilder Kristin Thomas leads the team with a 0.550 average, which is 22nd in the nation

Megan Hartman is hitting at a 0.471 clip.

The Storm are off this weekend due to weather conditions but hope to open their home season next week.
