The SCC softball team kicks off the 2015 season with a feeling of excitement and optimism.

“This is going to be a big year,” Head Coach Bob Ginsburg said in a recent interview with Beatrice radio station KWBE.

Ginsburg and his team suffered through a 3-37 season last year, but said his team never gave up and that attitude helped with recruiting.

“They had heart,” Ginsburg said. “They established how this program wanted to go…and the recruits who came in this year saw those players play that way.”

Pitcher Nicole Zelinsky returns from last year’s squad. Despite not having stellar numbers (1-15 record, .123 batting average), Gingsburg said she sets a great example for the newcomers.

“We ended up with 11 players that did not give up last year, and she was one of them. She came through at the end of the year, and she brings that experience, “Ginsburg said.

The coach said this year’s squad has better foot speed and improved hitting.

“These girls are putting the bat to the ball,” Ginsburg exclaimed.

The 2nd year coach also expects improvement from the Lady Storm pitchers.

“As far as pitching, we are going to be superior to last year, “Ginsburg said.

The Storm opened the season on Feb. 13th at Brown Mackie. Their first home game is Mar. 4 against Midland Junior Varsity.

Ginsburg said the future is bright for SCC softball thanks to the last two recruiting classes.

“We are going to give Southeast Community College the softball program they can follow and be proud of,” he said.
