Korsakas, the son of Mike and Cindy Korsakas, is a Lincoln Southwest High School graduate who will play first base and be SCC’s designated hitter in 2012. He will join UALR in fall 2012.
Last season, Korsakas was the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Player of the Week the second week of April after he went 5-for-7 with three home runs, 10 runs batted in and a stolen base. He also was the winning pitcher in the first game of a doubleheader against Cloud County (Kan.) Community College.
“He’s a great kid,” Storm Coach Ron Cullison said. “He received a really good scholarship offer. They watched us in our first game this fall and gave him a visit.”
As a freshman, Korsakas led the Storm in batting average (.444), home runs (five), and RBI (24).
“He had a good year last year,” Cullison said.
Last season, UALR’s baseball team won the Sun Belt Conference Tournament after going 4-0, claiming the program’s first SBC tourney title. The Trojans finished the season with a 24-34 record after losing to Georgia in the NCAA Corvallis (Ore.) Regional.
“Arkansas-Little Rock is a very good D-I program, and it’s in a pretty good conference,” Cullison said. “Mark is pretty happy about going there. I think he has a good chance to step in and start at first base for Coach (Scott) Norwood.”
