Baseball season is in full swing for the Southeast Community College Storm as they have powered their way to a 16-7 record.

First year Head Coach Dion Parks, who took over for the retired Ron Cullison, said the team’s expectations are to get “better and better” as the season goes on.

“We need to stay focused on what we can control and not get caught up in the external factors,” Parks said.

SCC had home games with Highland Community College and Iowa Lakes College cancelled due to the weather.

Southeast stumbled early with losses to Butler Community College and Enid College (Okla.).

“(Butler and Enid) are good teams…especially at their place.  We were just on the short end of some good games,” the coach explained.  “We just used it as a positive (going) forward.”

Parks added that the team did not play well, but still had a chance to win those games.

The Storm are enjoying a five game winning streak, with four of the wins coming in a home sweep of Dawson County Community College, March 15 and 16.

Sophomore Creighton Wilke leads the team with a .435 average, blasting seven homers and 27 RBIs.

Leading the team on the mound is sophomore Cody Valdez. Valdez is 4-0 with a 2.00 ERA.
