SCC to host Region IX softball tournament

The SCC softball season is winding down, and Head Coach Bob Gingsburg could use your help.

The team will be hosting the Region IX softball tournament Friday, May 2, and Saturday, May 3, at Hannibal Park in Beatrice.

It has been a difficult season for the Lady Storm. They are 2-35 on the season and have been shut out in their last four games.

The coach said that he has a young team, and a number of student-athletes have left the team or have been declared ineligible for various reasons.

The team currently has eight student-athletes active, but Gingsburg said he expects to get some players back by May 1.

Southeast will be counting on sophomores Kamie Fuller and Haley Carlsen. Fuller leads the team in batting with a .358 average, while Carlsen has two home runs and nine RBIs to help pace the offense.

Despite the challenges, the first year coach feels optimistic heading into the tournament.

“The 11 team members on the roster have not given up and have the potential to play well,” Ginsburg explained. “I believe they will take their games to the next level and put together a strong tournament.”

The Lady Storm will kick off the tournament on Friday, May 2, at noon and play a second game at 2:30. Saturday games are 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3:30 p.m., if needed.

The results on Friday will determine if they play on Saturday.

“Please stop by Hannibal Park and cheer these student-athletes on,” Ginsburg asked. “Your support would be helpful and very much appreciated.”
