Southeast Community College will open its doors Nov. 4 when it holds its annual Open House.
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at each campus location in Beatrice, Lincoln and Milford, prospective students and their families, current SCC students, SCC alumni and friends, and constituents will have the opportunity to take a closer look at the eighth-ranked community college in the nation for student success rate.
Dr. Jack Huck, SCC president, said Open House is a tradition at SCC that has evolved throughout the years.
“This day has a variety of purposes,” Huck said. “It’s a tremendous opportunity for prospective students and their families to see what SCC is all about. It’s a chance for SCC alumni to come back and see what has happened at the College since they graduated. And it’s an opportunity for our constituents to get a closer look at Southeast.”
Each campus will showcase its Programs of Study and services. Also, Beatrice and Milford campuses will provide information about on-campus housing, and Beatrice will share information about SCC’s six intercollegiate athletic programs.
“Prospective students, particularly high school seniors and juniors, are exploring colleges right now,” Huck said. “We are the most affordable institution of higher education in Nebraska, we offer 50 Programs of Study, and we have a 94-percent job placement/continuing education rate. Those are indisputable statistics, but a student really needs to see the campus, visit the program and talk to SCC faculty and students before they make a choice.”
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore each program on that campus, receive information about financial aid and apply for scholarships. There also will be door prizes and refreshments.
“A lot of preparation goes into this day,” Huck said. “Our faculty and staff do a marvelous job organizing the day and making sure that visitors receive the information they need and are provided answers to their questions. It’s a great day to see Southeast up close and personal.”
Registration is not required. Ample parking will be available at each location. Upon arrival, visitors will receive a program guide to the activities taking place on that campus during the five-hour event.
