Nine Southeast Community College students placed high in competitive exams during the 50th Anniversary of the Nebraska Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference March 30-31 in Kearney.
SCC’s Beatrice Campus PBL Chapter received the Gold Level Excellence Award, and former SCC student Justin Schultis, of Schultis & Sons of Fairbury, received a PBL Businessperson of the Year award. Schultis graduated in June 2011.
Peggy Schmidt of Beatrice placed second in Impromptu Speaking, third in Job Interview and eighth in Business Law.
Brandon Staroscik of DeWitt placed second in Cyber Security, fifth in Networking Concepts, seventh in International Business, and was named to Who’s Who in Nebraska PBL.
Ronda Meritt of Liberty placed third in Hospitality Management.
Aimee Padgett of Beatrice placed third in Client Services, fourth in Job Interview, sixth in Help Desk, and was named to Who’s Who in Nebraska PBL.
Shelby Hatesohl of Green Leaf, Kan., placed third in Financial Analysis and Decision Making, sixth in Microeconomics and sixth in Computer Concepts.
Ulugbek Abduqayumov of Uzbekistan placed fifth in Microeconomics and sixth in Public Speaking.
Khayyomjon Qodirov of Tajikistan placed fifth in Computer Applications.
Tiko Shergelashvili of the Republic of Georgia placed eighth in International Business.
The students competed against other two-year and four-year college students in Nebraska.
Nebraska Future Business Leaders of America-PBL was formed as a single organization in 1962. The chapter began with the following state officer positions: President; High School and College Vice Presidents; Corresponding and Recording Secretaries; Treasurer; and Reporter.
The first State Leadership Conference was held in March 1962 where three FBLA chapters, four PBL chapters and delegates from four other schools were represented. The first PBL chapter was the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, which received its charter from the Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia on Oct. 25, 1962.
FBLA-PBL is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) education association with a quarter million students preparing for careers in business and business-related fields.
