A selection of photographic and digitally-created images by Southeast Community College students and alumni will be on display for two weeks at the Beatrice Public Library.
Titled “The Art of Photography at SCC,” the exhibit will be on display April 14-29 at the library, 100 N. 16th St., Beatrice. The public is invited to view the exhibit and should call the library at 402-223-3584 for exhibit hours.
A closing reception will be held April 29 in conjunction with the library’s open house. Refreshments will be served.
The exhibit is curated by Bradley Peters, a Columbus native who earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in photography in 2008 from Yale University’s School of Art. Peters received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2004, majoring in psychology and art.
Peters is an adjunct photography instructor for SCC, UNL and Doane College.
“Bradley has his own business doing fine-art photography,” said Nancy Hagler-Vujovic, co-chair of the Humanities Department on SCC’s Beatrice Campus.
Between 300 and 350 pieces were considered for the exhibit, and Peters narrowed the number to approximately 50 for the final display.
“He’s going to use the work of current and former photography students for the exhibit dating back to the past three photography teachers at SCC-Beatrice,” Hagler-Vujovic said.
In 2002 and 2003 Peters was awarded the UNL Creative Activities & Research Experiences Grant. He also received the Jean R. Faulkner Memorial Award, the Gold Award from the Midwest Society for Photographic Education, and the Richard Benson Prize.
