Southeast Community College head softball coach Pat Lytle has announced the signing of eight players who will join the Storm for the 2011-2012 season
Signing national letter of intents are Shelby Baker of Wymore; Stephanie Brownell of Clifton, Kan.; Catherine Coady of Mead; Kayley Cooper of Gering; Jessica Marisch of Grand Island; Jalyn Meyer of Lincoln; Roni Putnam of Gothenburg; and Jessica Roady of Marysville, Kan.
“This is a versatile group of players who can play multiple positions,” Lytle said. “There is a good mix of speed and power with these recruits, and they are all good competitors. I feel confident they will be a good fit with our returning sophomores.”
Baker is a 5-foot, 6-inch shortstop/catcher from Southern High School. She earned honorable mention all-state honors as a junior and senior. She was an offensive leader for the Lady Raiders, batting .375 and driving in 22 runs.
Brownell is a 5-4 outfielder/catcher from Clifton-Clyde High School. She was named to the 2009 United States Specialty Sports Association All-Tournament softball team. She plays competitive softball for the Midwest Elite and can hit from both sides. “Brownell works hard on the field and is an excellent student in the classroom,” Lytle said.
Coady is a 5-8 shortstop/outfielder who played her high school softball at Yutan/Mead. She earned first-team all-conference honors during her senior year. “She is a hard worker, and I believe she has the potential to develop her game and be a strong contributor to our program,” Lytle said.
Cooper is a 5-6 first baseman/outfielder from Gering High School. She earned honorable mention all-state honors during her senior year. “She brings a good glove at first base and will add power to our offense,” Lytle said
Marisch is a Grand Island Senior High School letter-winner who will transfer from Nebraska to SCC this fall. “She will add depth at pitcher this season,” Lytle said. “She has been a standout pitcher for Rick Buer’s Flames of Nebraska travel team for the past couple of years and has gained a lot of experience.”
Meyer is a 5-3 pitcher from Lincoln Pius X who helped lead her team to a 14-10 record in Class B this past fall. “She has good movement on her pitches and is able to keep good hitters off balance,” Lytle said.
Putnam is a 5-4 outfielder/infielder from Gothenburg High School. She earned all-conference honors her senior year. “She will bring a winning attitude to our program,” Lytle said, noting that the Swedes were 76-30 with two trips to the state tournament during her four years of high school. “She set several offensive records for the Swedes during her senior year.”
Roady is a 5-8 outfielder/catcher from Marysville High School. She helped propel the Bulldogs to the Kansas state tournament this spring. She earned first-team all-conference honors during her junior and senior years. “She will bring power to our offense, and she has an outstanding arm in the outfield,” Lytle said.
