A 12-week course that prepares students for the Federal Aviation Administration written exam will begin in January on Southeast Community College’s Beatrice Campus.
SCC’s Continuing Education Division is offering Aviation Ground School Tuesday nights from Jan. 10 through March 27. The class will be held from 6-10 p.m. in Room 334 of the Kennedy Center on the Beatrice Campus, 4771 W. Scott Road.

Passing the FAA written exam is necessary for gaining a Visual Flight Rules pilot’s license. Course objectives include fundamentals of flight (pilot training, airplane systems and aerodynamic principles); flight operations (the flight environment, communication and flight information); aviation weather (meteorology for pilots and interpreting weather data); performance and navigation; and integrating pilot knowledge and skills (applying human factor principles and the flight planning process).
The required textbook and supplies are included in the cost of the course. Doyle and Cox are FAA-certified flight instructors.
