Dr. Dennis Headrick, vice president for instruction at Southeast Community College, is the recipient of an Instructional Leadership Award sponsored by the National Council of Instructional Administrators.
“The committee was very impressed with the nomination packet submitted by SCC, which reflected Dennis’ excellence as an academic leader,” said Dr. Linda Uzureau, executive director of NCIA.
“The committee was particularly impressed that the entire team of his dean colleagues wrote a letter of support, in addition to the other wonderful letters from faculty colleagues, his president, and the executive director of NCCA (Nebraska Community College Association).”
NCIA recognizes outstanding academic administrators for the important role they play in realizing the mission of community colleges. Headrick won the award for Region 5, comprised of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
Headrick joined SCC in 1990 as assistant Beatrice Campus director. He has served SCC in his current capacity since 1995.
“It is an honor to receive this award and humbling to be recognized by your peers,” Headrick said. “I have been blessed to work with a great group of administrators, within the college and statewide, along with great faculty.
Plus, to have the support of the (SCC) president and Board of Governors to implement new ideas and projects that will make SCC a better institution for students is what drives me in this position.”
The instructional leadership awards are given annually by the NCIA to recognize active instructional administrators who exemplify academic leadership in a variety of ways, including demonstrating creativity and innovation in their work, demonstrating sustained commitment to instructional issues and challenges, developing and leading innovative initiatives to foster student success and completion, and making a substantial impact on the college organization.
Headrick will be presented the award at a luncheon April 11 during the International Conference on College Teaching and Learning, April 11-13, at Sawgrass Resort in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The national winner also will be announced at the luncheon.
