BEATRICE – Thirteen new and continuing students received gift baskets for completing the Fall 2011 Scavenger Hunt at the Southeast Community College Beatrice Campus.
“The goal of the scavenger hunt,” said Associate Registrar Cheryl Parks, “was to encourage new students to get involved.”
Parks added, “It was exciting to see the winners come in and some even came back later to say how much they enjoyed the gift baskets and how useful they were.”
This involvement was achieved by requiring students to do things like get a sticker on the back of their I.D. card, get a parking permit, print their schedule from WebAdvisor, find when the next opportunity to apply for scholarships was, and find the page in the student handbook that contains the Beatrice campus final exam schedule.
In total, 23 students completed the scavenger hunt, and 13 of those students were randomly chosen to receive the gift baskets.
The gift baskets contained items such as food, cleaning items, paper towels, plates, napkins and SCC logo items.
“The majority of the donations came from the SCC-Beatrice Student Services office staff,” said Parks, “with additional donations from the SCC-Beatrice Bookstore, SCC-Beatrice Student Activities and SCC Storm Athletics.”
“I liked the participation from the staff,” said Parks. “It was done willingly and for the good of the students, so it was prime that it came from student services.”
The first SCC Scavenger Hunt was held in the Summer Term of 2011 with three gift baskets to be won.
There are plans to continue the Scavenger Hunt once a year in the Fall Term.
