BEATRICE – The Southeast Community College Beatrice chapter of the Licensed Practical Nurse Association of Nebraska received the first Student Organization Impact Award at the 61st annual LPNAN convention awards luncheon.
To qualify for this award, the organization demonstrated commitment to their field of study, participated in community service projects, attended the state convention and held fundraising activities.
Accepting on behalf of the program were Level One President Clara Hartley of Hebron and Level Two President Kristin Caspers of Tecumseh.
Students were awarded for maintaining a 3.0 grade point average throughout the program, and faculty were recognized for their role in advising the program with a placement in the LPNAN Honor Society.
Practical Nursing student Nancy Drent of Beatrice also accepted a $350 LPNAN grant.
Thirty-six students from the Beatrice Practical Nursing program accompanied by Program Chair Crystal Higgins and local LPNAN advisors Pat Lorenz and Karen Stevens attended the convention held at the Kearney Ramada Inn on Thursday, Oct. 20, and Friday, Oct. 21.
Practical Nursing Level Two officers with Higgins, Lorenz and Stevens attended the annual membership meeting where Level Two Secretary Nicole Nolte reported on the organization’s activities since last year’s convention.
Students attending the convention received continuing education credits from presentations on topics such as addiction intervention and treatment, dementia care and cardiac drugs.
Also included were an exposition show, a silent auction and an evening banquet with entertainment by comedy magician Adam White.
LPNAN, managed by the Nebraska Health Care Association, is a 406-member organization that supports, promotes and represents all aspects of practical nursing in Nebraska.
