BEATRICE – Students in the Southeast Community College Beatrice chapter of the Licensed Practical Nurses Association of Nebraska are sponsoring a food and clothing drive for residents in the Beatrice area and nearby Nebraska counties.
Every year, the LPNAN students are encouraged to participate in community service projects. Projects usually include collecting food and clothing items for area residents.
LPNAN student advisor Pat Lorenz says that since 2009, the student organization has gathered nearly 4000 pounds of food including almost 300 pounds during an emergency food drive a few months ago.
Food and clothing collection is taking place right now and continues until the first week of December.
Items gathered will be distributed to the Blue Valley Food Pantry and the Prestart and Headstart child programs on the SCC Beatrice campus.
The recent heat wave this past summer required more bottled water, and the LPNAN students gathered over 500 bottles of water for the Blue Valley Food Pantry.
In the spring, the LPNAN chapter is involved with the Beatrice Community Hospitals’ health fair, where students assist with health screenings and pass on health information.
