Skateboarding has always been a big thing, might it be in the background of a movie or in the new Tony Hawk game.
In recent years, though, it has blown up with special brands of shoes and clothes just for skateboarders.
Even more recently, a new trend has started: longboarding. Though the same idea, it is completely different starting with the board.
Long boards have a longer wheel base, wider trucks and bigger wheels. All signs point to an easier ride.
Short boards are made for trick functionality, not specifically to cruise like a lot of longboards are.
Although easier, they are not fool proof, and any beginner is promised to go home with bumps and bruises.
Lincoln has its very own group called Lincoln Long boarders, friends who ride down the street together.
One advantage of longboarding is that it is a reasonably faster way to travel.
Andres Zambrano, a Brazilian native and former Lincolnite, has a love for longboarding.
“It is great to get on my board, cruise down the street to a friend, then ride around all day,” he said.
“Especially in Lincoln, I never have to look for parking; I could board almost anywhere.”
Although riding the board itself is free, it clearly costs something to get started.
Boards differ in price starting at $79, quickly and easily moving upward.
