LINCOLN – According to the press, financial experts and certain politicians the country is in recession, making budgets tight and money hard to come by.
College students struggle to find entertainment that is free or inexpensive, and here are a few ideas to save money and still have fun.
Southeast Community College provides students with several free or inexpensive entertainment options.
The Lincoln campus at 84th and O Streets offers students a recreational center that includes basketball and weightlifting among other options that are free to use.
The main campus also offers ping-pong, pool and video games that are available to play in the student lounge.
Students are also encouraged to participate in intramural activities such as 3 on 3 basketball and summer softball leagues.
SCC also offers free popcorn and ice cream on days advertised, often providing students with a quick snack for in-between or after classes.
In addition, the campus often offers free movie viewings to students, showing recently released and sometimes classic films.
Jared Franey a second year students says, “I like to play pool and ping pong in the student lounge between classes.”
Franey went on to add, “I never pass up on the free popcorn or ice cream either” and said he always checks the bulletin boards.
Students also receive access to the school library, which can be used for more than just school research. The computer lab also provides students with an opportunity to use the Internet for free.
