The national emergency medical services accreditation agency has issued a letter of review commending Southeast Community College’s Paramedic program for its “commitment to quality paramedic education.”
The Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the EMS Professions determined that SCC’s program has demonstrated satisfactory core information of the Standards and Guidelines for the AEMSP of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Under the authority of the letter, graduates of SCC’s Paramedic program will meet the eligibility requirement of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Paramedic certification examination related to “graduation from a CAAHEP accredited Paramedic program.”
Under the Letter of Review, students who graduate from the program after Jan. 1, 2013, will be recommended to the National Registry of EMTs to be eligible to sit for the Paramedic certification examination. All other NREMT requirements for admission to the Paramedic exam must be met by the individual.
The Letter of Review is not an accreditation status. It is, however, related to the program’s application for CAAHEP accreditation.
In addition to maintaining ongoing compliance with the Standards, the program must meet all administrative requirements specified in Appendix A of the Standards and Guidelines. One of those requirements is to fill all reports in a timely manner in accordance with CoAEMSP policy. The first of the reports is due on or before Dec. 1.
When CoAEMSP deems that the ISSR is satisfactory, the executive office will schedule an on-site visit with the program as specified in the CoAEMSP policies and procedures.
SCC’s program is located on the Lincoln Campus. The 15-month program enrolls a new group of students each Winter Quarter in January. Persons wanting more information about the program are asked to contact Ryan Batenhorst, chair, at 402-437-2795.
