BEATRICE – The SCC Women’s Basketball started of their season with a record of 3-1.
The Storm came out with an opening win over Union College on Wednesday, Nov. 2. SCC then suffered their only loss of the season against Ellsworth Community College on Thursday, Nov. 3. Recovering from their loss, the Storm won their next games against Midland JV on Monday, Nov. 7 and Concordia JV on Wednesday, Nov. 9.
SCC has been very strong on both offense and defense this season. Defensively, the Storm has caused several turnovers and held their opponents to an average of 55 points per game.
Offensively, SCC has averaged 69 points per game.
Head Coach Vicki Wooton said, “Many of our new players are still learning our system, and we are improving every practice.”
“We still need to work on the little things,” she added, “rebounding, playing hard and defending.”
Lady Storm Basketball began the 2011-2012 season with a win over Union College on Wednesday, Nov. 2.
SCC came out strong early in the game to create a 47-13 lead at the half. The Lady Storm finished the game as they started, defeating Union with a score of 79-37.
Freshman Caitlin Madden led the Storm with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 5 steals.
In their next game the SCC Women suffered their first loss of the season against Ellsworth Community College on Thursday, Nov. 3.
The Storm fell behind early in the game, finishing the first half with a score of 21-31. SCC fought hard to come back in the second half, but couldn’t pull through, losing 56-65.
“They made shots we didn’t. Stats were very even except for shooting,” Co-Head Coach Joel Wooton said. “Everything else was even.”
“SCC finally got things going the last five minutes, but couldn’t dig out of the hole,” added Wooton.
Determined to recover from their loss, SCC Women’s Basketball raised their record to 2-1 after a win over Midland JV Monday, Nov. 7, in Fremont.
The Storm played a close first half, going into half-time leading with a score of 33-28.
“SCC struggled shooting the ball again, but in the second half got things going early with some good pressure defense,” said Co-Head Coach Joel Wooton.
SCC pulled off the win against Midland JV with a score of 71-62.
Freshman Kindrea Poole finished the night with a double-double having 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Lady Storm Basketball defeated Concordia JV on Wednesday, Nov. 9, to improve their record to 3-1.
SCC started off slow, but then picked up the pace and left the first half leading Concordia 45-36.
“We forced Concordia to 32 turnovers for the game,” said Head Coach Vicki Wooton. “SCC shot 40 percent from the floor.”
SCC ended the game with a score of 71-57.
Four freshmen led the Storm to their victory against Concordia.
Finishing the game with a double-double, Kindrea Poole of Las Vegas, Nev. had 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Giving the Storm 12 points and 6 steals for the game was Caitlin Madden of Lincoln.
Rachel Brewster of Fresno, Calif. gave the Storm 11 points and 4 rebounds.
With 10 points, 7 rebounds and 7 steals, Mesha Phillips of Las Vegas, Nev. played successful defense for the Storm.
