The New Zealand duo of Dionne Martin and Chelsea Savage helped lead the SCC Lady Storm to a 74-52 win over Hesston College on Monday, Nov.11, at the Truman Center.
Savage exploded for 31 points, including 4-6 from three. Martin added 15 points and 10 rebounds for a double/double.
Southeast trailed 6-3 early on before going on a 14-0 run and never looking back to come up with the dominating win.
Savage said it has been a challenge to adjust to the American game after playing in New Zealand.
“I had to get used to slowing down and creating opportunities for my teammates,” Savage said.
Martin said the coaches have asked her to learn a different position at SCC.
“I was a little rough (on defense) at the start, and I have had to adjust and learn to play the 4 as well as the 3 now and then,” Martin explained. “It’s good for me to get a range of both guard and forward positions.”
Hesston was led by Nikkita Lester, who had 15 points.
SCC improves to 5-1 with the win, and will be back home on Thursday, Nov.21, to take on Union College.
