The Lady Storm dominated from start to finish as they handled the visiting Central Community College Lady Knights 93-56 Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the Truman Center.

Sophomore McKayla McDaniel (Franklyn, La.) hit a three from the left wing on Southeast’s first possession following a Central miss. Sophomore Brianna Grant (La Grange, Ga.) then alertly tied up a Lady Raider to force a jump ball and give it back to her team.

Grant then got a bucket off of a give and go from Sophomore Dionne Martin (Hamilton, New Zealand) to make it 5-0. Then after a miss by each team, Martin got behind the defense on a pass from the top and scored to make it 7-0, forcing a Central timeout.

Chelsey Savage then hit a three to make it 10-0, marking the 3rd straight game where SCC jumped out to a big lead on their opponents.

“Everything is working right now, “ Head coach Vicki Wooton said. “We are just going out and playing our game.”

The coach also credited better shot selection and said her team is more confident running the system.

Southeast shot a blistering 54 percent from the field in the first half.

Brianna Grant led her team with 24 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and four steals.

“She does everything, “Wooton said. “She is quick to the basket… and we like to put her on the other team’s best players to she shut them down.”

Southeast’s bench took a hit right before halftime as Aliah Tai went down with an apparent knee injury.

Wooton said that an MRI will be performed on Tai’s knee, and her return this season is doubtful.

“The injury is a big hit as we may have to move Grant over to the four position, which she played a little last year, “ Wooton explained.

SCC has won five in a row and is now ranked 20th in the nation.

The Lady Storm will next play Hesston College at Hesston, Kan., on Saturday, followed by a game with Union College at the Truman Center on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
