The Southeast Community College Lady Storm overwhelmed Midland Junior Varsity 76-49 on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the Truman Center to win their sixth straight game.
The game was never in doubt as the Lady Storm raced out to a 45-24 halftime lead, while shooting a blistering 54 percent from the field.
SCC kept up the defensive pressure on Midland in the second half, holding the Lady Warriors to 25 percent field goal shooting for the game.
Head Coach Vicki Wooton said that it was a “good overall performance” and that the Lady Storm “used good shot selection.”
Wooton added that SCC played good defensively, but cautioned that the Lady Storm “still have a long way to go” on defense.
Destiny Whitehead came off the bench to lead SCC with 15 points, while Mesha Phillips added 14. Makayla Gardner just missed a double/double, scoring nine points and pulling down nine boards.
The Lady Storm went 3-0 on the road following the Rhiannon Memorial Classic.
SCC beat Union 55-32, Kansas Wesleyan JV 75-64, and Northwestern Tech 73-42.
Assistant Coach Joel Wooton said the road wins showed that the Lady Storm are “becoming more consistent,” but added that the team is still “missing too many free throws” and they have to get better defensively.
Next up for SCC is the Hesston Classic Friday, Nov. 23, and Saturday, Nov. 24, at Hesston.
