The Lady Storm dropped a 3-1 (18-25, 21-25, 25-13, 25-23) decision to the visiting Laramie Community College Golden Eagles Wednesday, Aug. 27, at the Truman Center.

Head Coach Carrie Puhalla said several SCC players were battling illness.

“I probably shouldn’t have played some players,” Puhalla admitted.

After struggling the first two sets, Southeast dominated the third set 25-13. Puhalla said switching middle blockers Amara Meeks and Syndi Lee contributed to the dominating set.

“Switching them moved our offense around a little, and gave us defense when we needed it, “ Puhalla explained. “Our blocking was a little bit better, and when were on, were on.”

Micheala Viloria led Southeast with 11 kills, followed by Alison Triplette and Amara Meeks with seven a piece. Darby Hinrichs led the defense with 25 digs.

Laramie was powered by Mikayla Martinez and Shelby Johnson with 11 kills each, while Rory McCloy paced the offense with 40 assists.

Despite the loss, Puhalla remains upbeat about the team’s potential this season.

“I think we are more athletic and play with a confidence we may have not had in previous seasons,” Puhalla said.

The loss dropped the Lady Storm to 4-1 on the season.
