LINCOLN—The SCC Surgical Technology Student Association will be holding two fundraising events. These events are to help send members of the group to the National Surgical Technology Conference in Washington D.C. in May 2012.
The first fundraising event will be held on Monday, Jan. 16, at the Runza on 84th and Holdrege in Lincoln.
Runza has agreed to donate 10 percent of their profits from 5-8 p.m. to the association.
Anyone who would like to participate in this event should pick up a flyer from Room B5 on campus, and present it at the time of their purchase. This will ensure that their purchase is included in the donation.
The second fundraising event will be held on Friday, March 30. The Surgical Technology Student Association will be selling hockey tickets to the Lincoln Stars and Omaha Lancers game.
The game starts at 7:05 p.m. at The Ice Box in Lincoln, and tickets will be $14.50 each.
“The Lincoln/Omaha rivalry always provides a great atmosphere,” said Surgical Technology Instructor, Casey Glassburner, “and a fun night out with your family and friends.”
At the 3-day conference, students will attend continuing education workshops held by surgeons and vendors in the profession. Also, there is a student-centered day, where the students will be able to view all career opportunities and attend a question and answer session.
SCC plans on sending 15-20 students to the conference, which the program has attended annually since 2004.
According to Glassburner, the Surgical Technology Student Association will need to raise around $650 per student.
“We like to send students to the conference because we believe it is important for them to become professionally involved, even as students,” said Glassburner, “and for them to have the chance to see all the members that are in the profession already.”
