SCC golfer Calvin Freeman is headed to the next level.
The Nebraska men’s golf team announced recently the signing of the Humbolt-Table Rock Steinuer graduate to the team.
“It is a dream come true,” Freeman exclaimed. “I couldn’t believe it…I was quick to answer the offer.”
“Being a Nebraska kid, I always dreamed of playing football for the Huskers,” Freeman continued. “I never thought I would be golfing for them.”
Head Nebraska Coach Bill Spangler eagerly anticipates adding Freeman to the team.
“He is a strong player with a tremendous work ethic,” Spangler said in an article on Huskers.com. “We look forward to Calvin having an immediate impact here.”
Southeast Head Coach Bill Campbell calls Freeman, “The complete package.”
“He can find that creative shot,” Campbell added.
The Nebraska signee earned first team All-American Honors last year and brought home a Region IX title. He placed 2nd in this year’s championship, behind teammate Liam Chambers.
Freeman said he had offers from Colorado State, Southern Illinois, The University of Nebraska at Omaha, and was receiving some interest from Purdue.
The sophomore said he isn’t a “flashy player.”
“I think my biggest strength is my leadership to the team,” Freeman added.
Campbell said the signing is special for the Southeast golf program.
“It’s good for SCC, it’s good for Nebraska, (and) it’s good for Calvin.” Campbell concluded.
