Dr. Hoppmann became a teacher because he loved sharing music with people and wanted to help others to find music.
He came to SCC, starting as an adjunct 15 years ago. He loved the student population and student diversity. He became a full time staff member 4 years ago.
In five years, Dr. Hoppmann wants to be doing the same job.
When asked about his educational philosophy, he stated, “my educational philosophy is that everyone deserves to have the opportunity to learn. Our job as educators is to meet students where they are and help them move forward. Education is a lifelong process, one that consists of many small steps, not giant leaps.”
He would describe himself in three words as a visionary, passionate, and kind.
Dr. Hoppmann’s strength is that he is a visionary for what can be and his ability to work well with others. His weakness is his desire to do many things at once.
Now, let’s take a look into the personal lives of our staff member.
A pet peeve of Dr. Hoppmann’s is diction, mainly when people put put a sh sound where it does not belong, (such as string vs. ‘shtring’)
A few of his favorite movies are “Igor and Coco,” “A Beautiful Mind,” “War Games,” “Back to the Future,” and “Silence of the Lambs.”
A few books he is reading are books about the roles of music and society.
A few people he admires are Lili Krause and Aurthur Rubenstien.
A few of Dr. Hoppmann’s favorite musicians are Billy Joel, Elton John, and Maroon 5 (whose bassist was a former student).
