Despite excessive heat and a couple of expected delays, the new Eisenhower Dorm in Beatrice will be ready for occupancy for the fall quarter, according to Russ Zito, construction crew foreman.
According to Jonah Jordening, Eisenhower’s RA, “Students will be allowed to start moving in on Sunday, Sept. 31.”
“The heat slowed us down for a couple of weeks,” Zito said, “but we were still able to get some of the work done during the early morning and late evening hours.”
“The delays didn’t last very long,” he added. “We will be finished on time.”
On Tuesday morning, several different types of crews were observed working together to get the job done quickly, but efficiently; between twenty and thirty crewmen from Sampson Construction, Wrightsman Plumbing, and Plymouth Electric companies were present.
Very little remains of exterior work, and according to Zito, interior work is progressing nicely.
The sheet rock is in place and will soon be finished, and phone lines have already been installed.
The crews were laying linoleum flooring, installing kitchen and bathroom fixtures and placing appliances (refrigerators, ranges, dishwashers, and disposals) in each unit.
The laundry facility will be near the RA’s unit on the first floor in the east wing, and it will have three washers and three dryers.
Four units holding up to eight students per unit will be on each of three floors in both wings, except the first floor east wing, which will only have three units. The space left on that wing will be used for the RA unit and the laundry room.
The Housing staff expressed eagerness for the end of construction.
