One thing I think all students have in common being in college is a need for a break from the everyday books, quizzes and tests. We need to go experience some free time and just relax.
What better way do this than hearing some live music?
Christian Jensen, a freshmen at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, says, “I love music; music is what helps me relax and not be so caught up in all of my school work. There are many places in Lincoln that people under 21 can go to for a good show.”
Places such as the Crescent Moon Coffee, the Bourbon Theater and even Starbucks are only some of the places we students can go spend free time.
Jessie Grey, also a freshmen at UNL, says, “My favorite place to go listen to some acoustic jam sessions would have to be Starbucks; for one, I am addicted to their coffee, and for two,
I love to listen to the performers that they have playing there. Since I go to the one in downtown Lincoln, I also enjoy the atmosphere as well”.
Most places that allow people under the age of 21 usually have open mic nights on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
“This allows a good atmosphere for the performer without people having to drink alcohol,” said Jensen.
Even though a lot of the bars in Lincoln will not allow people under the age of 21 get in, sometimes they make exceptions for someone who is younger as long as he or she is with someone over the age of 21. If a bar is also serving food all through the night, they usually will allow a minor in to watch some of the bigger band acts.
For those looking to unwind after a long test, some of these live music venues may just be the trick.
