The Computer Information Technology Program at Southeast Community College will be offering new curriculum starting July 11, 2012.
According to Linda Bettinger, CIT Program Co-Chair, the new curriculum will be offered online and at the Lincoln campus.
“We’ve been working towards these curriculum changes over the last few months,” says Bettinger.
Some of the changes include changing the Visual Basic courses and replacing them with a program called See Sharp.
Bettinger said, “The decision to start teaching See Sharp is based on recommendations from people in the industry and will make students more marketable in their industry.”
Another change in the curriculum will be the replacement of a program called Power Shell, which is a networking program used for script writing, maintenance software and file maintenance.
“It’s specific to students who plan to work in tech support,” Bettinger said. “It will be replaced by Share Point.
A good example of Share Point can be seen when navigating The Hub.”
The three courses offered in visual basics will be replaced by three See Sharp courses and offered in the CIT classrooms and the program’s computer lab at the Lincoln camps.
In order to make room for the new classes, two hardware classes have been combined into one.
“This change will make students more marketable in their computer field,” says Bettinger.
“The computer field is always changing. We are always examining new things and talking to advisors in the business and industry.
After two years, we will take this information, and use it to add to the program.”
