The Big Blue River, above seen looking southwest from West Court Street (U.S. Highway 136), has closed one bridge in Beatrice and is expected to close another.

The rising Big Blue River in Beatrice closed the bridge on West Court Street (U.S. Highway 136) and may close the bridge on South Sixth Street (U.S. Highway 77), closing the Beatrice campus effective at 3 p.m. this afternoon.

Campus Director Bob Morgan reported that the South Sixth Street bridge is expected to close between 5 and 6 p.m. today.

Students who were scheduled to take a final from 3:15 – 5:15 this afternoon have been asked to contact their instructor if arrangements for taking the final had not already been made.

Morgan said, “This is an unusual situation where flood waters may take more than a day or two to subside.”

This raises the potential for campus being closed on Monday as well, but any announcement, Morgan said, would “come from a regroup message either Sunday night or early Monday after reviewing the 511 map for road closures.”

At that time, Morgan said, the bridges which are closed and the available detour routes would be evaluated to make that determination.
