Student Success Center coming

If you’ve recently walked past the student services and admissions areas at SCC, you may have noticed some construction happening where the Tutoring and Welcoming Centers used to be.

This space will now be the new Student Success Center, which used to be in room H1 – across from the campus office and the bookstore.

The new Student Success Center will house success coaches, who provide assistance for students who are struggling to stay in school, and TRIO success coaches, who provide assistance for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

“Placing our Student Success Staff near our student services area provides for better placement and visibility so students know where they can go for assistance,” said Bev Harvey, the vice president of student services and Lincoln campus director.

The construction of the new Success Center is one of the moves happening because of the new labs and culinary space planned for construction early next year, Harvey said.

“We’re also going to refresh the lobby area by the east entrance to continue the remodel that began with the café and commons area which includes removal of a portion of the office the Success Center is currently in,” Harvey said.

The Tutoring Center is now located in the LRC and known as the Tutoring and Learning Center, and the Welcoming center will be moving into a portion of the student game room area, along with a coffee shop.

According to Harvey, the completion of the new Student Success Center is projected for a date in late July 2016.

“We’re excited to be able to provide a space that’s dedicated to student success,” Harvey said.
