McCook Community College is the latest victim of the surging Lady Storm.

SCC avenged an earlier loss (67-64 on Dec. 2) with a hard-fought 66-60 victory over the Lady Indians Tuesday, Feb. 17, at McCook to win their 11th game in a row. The team overcame a monster effort from McCook’s Brooksie Williams, who scored 25 points and pulled down 18 rebounds.

Southeast was in control at the half 35-16. McCook raced back and took a one point lead with 7:12 left. But the Lady Storm retook the lead shortly after and held on for the win.

Breanna Grant continued her late season dominance, pouring in 20 points and pulling down seven boards. Dionne Martin added nine points.

On Saturday, Feb. 14, Southeast shattered its own scoring record in a 137-46 blasting of Little Priest Tribal College at the Truman Center. The previous record was 110 verses Union College last month.

“Everybody contributed to the win,” Co-Head Coach Vicki Wooton said.

The coach said the 15 three pointers her team made was a school record. Sierra Friedly and Erin Saathoff came off the bench to hit seven and five treys respectively.

Wooton also pointed out that 5’2” Shanae Collins came off the bench to lead the team with 16 rebounds.

“She can jump out of the gym,” Wooton said.

Southeast is 19-6 overall and 11-1 since Christmas break. The lone loss was to Johnson County (76-45), the No. 1 team in the nation at the time.

The 14th-ranked team in the nation travels to North Platte Community College on Friday, Feb. 20, for a game with playoff ramifications. SCC must win or lose by less than 14 to be the number one seed in the Regional tournament.
