Southeast Community College hosted a Student Appreciation Week from April 16 through April 20. Events throughout the week took place in the Lincoln Campus Student Center.
Associate Director of Financial Aid Charles Brewer assisted in the week’s events. “Today is the prize wheel – students spin to win different prizes,” he noted.
Prizes included a pizza cutter, a t-shirt and a flash drive among other items of swag. The staff noted that the count was 310 as of 12:15 when the SCC Challenge spoke with them. The event closed at 1:00 p.m.
“Student Appreciation Week is what it says,” Brewer said. “We appreciate the hard work, the dedication – all the effort they put it.”
“We’ve had a great turnout this week,” added Student Activities Director Rachel Mason. “It’s great for the students – I mean, we wouldn’t have jobs if it weren’t for the students.”
She gave estimates on the week’s action, with Monday’s Wax Hand event drawing around 150, Tuesday’s Breakfast bringing in around 300, Wednesday’s Root Beer Floats drawing around 530 people and Thursday’s Massages drawing over 90 relief seeking students.
The Prize Wheel, Pancake Breakfast and Root Beer Float events were all run by SCC staff and teachers. The Massage event was performed by certified massage therapists, such as Ms. Peigi Mitzner of Serenity Health Massage.
“This whole week is a part of Community College Month,” Mason noted. “It is the whole month of April,” she finished.
“We appreciate all the hard work students do to get their degree,” Brewer added. “You know, (we’re) thankful everyone is here.”
