Storm men win out first weekend

The SCC Storm tipped off the season 2-0 in the Central Community College Classic held Saturday, Nov. 1, and Sunday, Nov. 2, at Columbus.
Southeast handed the Hastings Junior Varsity a 77-71 overtime loss in the first game. The Storm trailed 29-26 at halftime, as they hit just 23.7 percent from the field. The team warmed up a bit in the second half, shooting 42.4 percent.
SCC outscored Hastings 16-10 in overtime to seal the win. The game featured nine lead changes and 15 ties.
Andre Hicks was a force inside for the Storm, leading the way with 17 points and seven rebounds. Noah Scott chipped in 12.
The Storm took care of the Midland Junior Varsity 64-54 on Nov. 2. Head Coach Joel Wooton said SCC’s man-to-man defense allowed them to control the game.
The coach said Southeast’s 38-26 rebounding advantage was also a factor in the win.
Deon Taylor led the Storm with 12 points, followed by Londell Stephens with 11. Altez Davis bolstered the defense with nine rebounds and three steals.
