A missed three pointer and follow-up shot at the buzzer allowed the SCC Storm to escape with a 67-65 win over Johnson County Community College, on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Truman Center.
Southeast CC led by 11 at one point in the second half and reopened leads of nine and seven points before JCCC battled their way back.
Head Coach Joel Wooton said the Storm struggled to move the ball at times and helped out the Cavaliers with unforced turnovers.
SCC shot a blistering 57 percent from the three point line, but 19 turnovers allowed JCCC to hang around and have a chance to win at the end.
Tyrell Corlew led Southeast with 17 points, including 4-8 from three. Josh Roberts scored 15 points, and John Swift was 4-5 from the three point line, finishing with 12 points. Altez Davis was active on the glass, grabbing 11 rebounds.
Preston Oakes and Pat Jones scored 28 and 21 points respectively to lead the Cavaliers.
The win improves SCC’s record to 15-5 on the season.
