The SCC baseball team raced past Longview College, taking three of four in a weekend series held Saturday, April 26, and Sunday, April 27, at Christenson Field.
Southeast swept the opening games on April 26, beating up LCC 5-1 and 6-2.
Nick Farleigh (7-3) and Drayton Riekenberg (2-1) picked up the wins, while Cody Valdez earned a save in game two.
Mitchell Schuler powered the Storm attack in both games, blasting a home run and knocking through 4 RBIs.
The Storm dropped the first game to Longview 5-1 on April 27.
Ryan Erdman (5-2) suffered the loss as LC scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie.
SCC capped off the weekend series by blanking Longview 6-0. Southeast blasted four runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back, adding a run in the second and fifth innings.
Cody Valdez (5-3) earned the shutout for the Storm.
Co-Head Coach Dion Parks said Longview brought a good team to Christenson Field.
“They played a tough schedule and were hot at the right time,” Parks said.
Parks added the team pitched well and got the hits they needed to win the series.
SCC is 15-3 (25-18 overall) since coming back from a series of games played in Florida during Spring Break.
Parks said the trip was instrumental in jump starting the Storm during the second half of the season.
“We thought we had a close team going down (to Florida),” Parks explained. “And after that trip, we found out how tight our team chemistry really was.”
Parks said that the team has made strides with the “mental aspect” of the game.
“We started focusing on what we could control,” Parks clarified. “(And) we picked each other up on attitude and effort.”
“And I think that is why that Florida trip was so important,” Parks concluded. “Because we really pulled it together mentally…more so than anything ‘physical’ we did down there.”
