SCC wins double-header against Union

The SCC men’s and women’s basketball teams swept a doubleheader with Union College, Tuesday, November 4, at Union.
The Lady Storm rolled over Union 85-39 in the first game. Head Coach Vicki Wooton called it a “Great team win,” as SCC had 11 players score and four in double figures.
Erin Saathoff came off the bench to lead SCC with 13 points and six rebounds. Makayla McDaniel added 12 points and six assists while Veshae Wilkinson chipped in 11 points.
Southeast employed a smothering defense, forcing Union into 40 turnovers.
The Storm easily overwhelmed Union 115-62 to cap off the doubleheader. SCC shot a steady 55 percent from the field and featured eight players scoring in double figures.
The team’s depth also played a factor in the blowout, as Southeast scored 71 points off the bench.
Freshman Akot Riak led the team with 17 points, while Sophomores Tyrell Allen and John Swift had 15 and 14 points respectively. Allen also hit 5-10 from the three point line.
The defense forced 31 turnovers and out- rebounded Union 49-37.
The men will debut at home Friday, November 7, against Cloud County. The action will be broadcast over the internet at ihigh.com/sccstorm.
