Southeast Community College has launched a mobile application that gives users access to a variety of information on their portable devices.
Called Datatel Mobile Access, or MOX, it is a fully integrated higher education mobile solution for various audiences, including prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, and alumni and friends. MOX, powered by the DubMeNow platform, works on multiple operating systems.
“We live in an instant world where we want everything right now,” said Stu Osterthun, administrative director of public information and marketing at SCC. “This application gives people on-the-go information about SCC that they should find very useful.”
Datatel, which has changed its name to Ellucian, and DUB worked together to provide mobile applications for the most prevalent smartphones on the market. MOX is currently available for iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, running on iOS3.x or iOS4.x; Google Android v2.1+; and BlackBerry OS v5.0.
Here’s how to install MOX on your mobile device:
- Download MOX from your device’s app store (Android Marketplace, Apple App Store, or BlackBerry App World).
- After the download is complete, launch the MOX app and choose “Southeast Community College” from the alphabetized list of schools.
Southeast’s mobile app has information under Maps, Important Numbers, News, Courses, Events, and Info.
The Maps feature utilizes Google Maps and has building locations and directions for SCC’s campus locations in Beatrice, Lincoln and Milford, as well as other Lincoln locations Energy Square, the Entrepreneurship Center and the Continuing Education Center.
Important Numbers are in alphabetical order by function, then location.
The News button gives users a choice between two daily newspapers, the College’s student newspaper or news posted by the College on SCC’s public website.
The Courses button is used by students currently enrolled at SCC and faculty. Students can see a course overview, including a description and the instructor; assignments; events; and faculty.
Once they log in using their WebAdvisor username and password, they will have access to their current class schedule. Faculty are able to see detailed information as well, including course description, class roster, announcements, and events.
The Events button provides users with a calendar of important events.
The Info button provides users ways to reach SCC’s Helpdesk, including calling, emailing or going to the Helpdesk Web page.
The Login button at the top‐right of the MOX home screen will ask for a current SCC username and password. Only SCC students and employees will have these credentials. However, people outside the College still will have access to all of the mobile parts except Courses.
