People may be familiar with the myriad of conveniences provided through Internet use, but it is difficult to stay abreast of all the changes and the potential risks presented by the Internet. We are all “virtual neighbors” in cyberspace, and what we do, or don’t do, can affect many others.
Southeast Community College, in partnership with the state of Nebraska, is hosting the 8th Annual Nebraska Cyber Security Conference. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 4 at SCC’s Continuing Education Center, 301 S. 68th St. Place, Lincoln.

Network administrators, system administrators and information security professionals are encouraged to attend. The conference is designed to raise awareness of cyber security and help protect everyone who ventures into cyberspace.
Numerous skilled industry experts are scheduled to speak, including keynote presenter Robert Ayoub of Fortinet. A variety of breakout sessions will encompass different areas of information security and technology. They will be presented by Technology Director Ernest Staats, Brandon Harms of Infogressive, Jill Klein of Sirius, Chris King of Aruba, Matt Walters of Fishnet, Adreina Monsalve of IBM, Chris Hobbs of the state of Nebraska, Nick Puetz of Fishnet Security, and FBI agent Justin Kolebrander.
Topics include managing and mitigating the BYO disaster, prioritizing your security efforts, kick starting your mobile revolution, the Aruba mobile virtual enterprise, BYO insecurity hands-on lab, emerging trends in identity management, data loss prevention, creating an effective security awareness program, BYOD and the consumerization of IT best practices, bang for your buck security investment, and an overview of current cyber threats. Ayoub’s keynote topic is “Bring It On! Applying Security to All Things Connected.”
Brenda Decker, chief information officer for the state of Nebraska, and Lt. Gov. Lavon Heidemann also are scheduled to speak.
