It’s closing in on 100.
Southeast Community College will be auctioning off another student-built house on June 10, the 99th dwelling since the Building Construction Technology program began in 1961.
Three programs on SCC’s Milford Campus have once again partnered to build a maintenance-free ranch-style house, this time containing 1,586 square feet of living space. The home is located on the building site, just southwest of the Eicher Technical Center, and will be auctioned at 2 p.m. June 10 on location. Visitors may inspect the house from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays leading up to the auction.
Persons wanting to see the house, or who want more information about it, are asked to contact Ron Petsch, Building Construction Technology program chair, at 402-761-8213 or at [email protected].
Students in Building Construction Technology, Electrical & Electromechanical Technology, and Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Technology built the house from the ground up.
The house has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, dining room, large utility room, and kitchen. There is oak trim throughout the house, and all walls are eight feet high. Andersen double-glazed windows are utilized throughout the home. The front door is fiberglass and the side entry door is insulated steel by Endura. The home will feature kitchen and bathroom countertops of Wilsonart.
Other features:
- Nordyne heat pump, Nordyne air handler, 50-foot refrigerant line set, Honeywell Vision Pro 8000 thermostat.
- Water supply piping is PEX and will be piped for a water softener (not included). Plumbing fixtures are Hamilton, Moen, Grohe, American Standard, In-Sink-Erator, Swanstone, and Maytag.
- Electrical service is a 225-amp, 42-space Square D panel donated by Square D Company.
- Wall insulation is 5.5-inch blown-in Batt System with half-inch by 4-foot by 9-foot OSB sheathing on the exterior. The ceiling insulation is rated at R-38 in all areas of the home. The Andersen-clad windows are double-glazed with high-performance Low E glass.
Since the buyer will move the house to a permanent location, basement plumbing, floor coverings, staining and painting will be provided by the new owner. The owner also is responsible for insuring the house immediately upon purchase.
Terms of the sale are cash, 25 percent due the day of the sale, with the balance due within 15 days. The sale price is subject to a 6.5-percent sales tax. The house must be moved from the SCC Milford Campus by Sept. 20, 2013, unless other arrangements are made.
Lance Larsen, a Cordova auctioneer with Lance Larsen & Associates, will carry on the family tradition and auction the house. Lance’s grandfather, Engvert Larsen, and father, Darrol Larsen, began auctioning the houses in 1961. Lance is a third-generation auctioneer who will auction the house on June 10.
And just like every year since 1979, Larsen will donate a portion of his fees to the Engvert & Darrol Larsen Scholarship Fund. Since it was established in 1979, approximately $35,500 has been distributed to 123 students.
