Many college campuses throughout the United States have gone smoke-free within the last couple of years.
Hopefully, all college and university campuses will transform into smoke free environments in the near future.
Already, a lot of state’s college campuses have gone 100 percent smoke free, including Wisconsin, New Jersey and Illinois; their laws protect all co-eds and college staff from secondhand smoke in residence halls and dorms.
More and more colleges and universities are respecting their students by providing smoke free dorms and campuses voluntarily.
However, many colleges and universities still allow smoking on campus grounds, despite the fact that there are dangerously high smoking rates among college students.
Many students at Southeast Community College would gladly like to see each campus as an all-around smoke free place. Those who do not smoke are more likely to be in favor of a smoke-free campus than those who do. One of the reasons is that no one wants to go outside after class to get some fresh air but be bombarded with cigarette smoke instead.
SCC has already taken a step in trying to improve students’ health by participating in the annual event called the Great American Smokeout. This event is widely held throughout the United States.
The Great American Smokeout event was intended to challenge those who smoke tobacco products to stop for 24 hours. They hoped their decision not to smoke would last forever.
This annual event will be coming up on Thursday, Nov. 17.
All SCC campuses are committed to focusing on the health and wellness of their students throughout the year. This special event recognizes that.
SCC should go smoke free
