Southeast Community College is ranked in four categories according to one publication’s annual listing of the top associate degree producers in the United States.
Community College Week, which publishes its annual Top 100 Associate Degree Producers list each June, ranked SCC second nationally in the number of graduates in Precision Production, only the second time since 2004 the College did not rank No. 1 in the category. The SCC programs Community College Week includes in the Precision Production category are Computer Aided Design Drafting, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Precision Machining and Automation Technology, and Welding Technology.
SCC’s No. 2 ranking in Precision Production is up one spot from a year ago.
The 2013 report is an analysis of data provided by the U.S. Department of Education. Community College Week’s list includes many four-year colleges and universities who grant associate degrees.
Other categories and SCC rankings for 2013:
Agriculture, Agriculture Operations & Related Sciences, fifth among two-year schools, 10th overall. This ranking is up two spots from a year ago.
Engineering Technologies and Engineering-Related Fields, 17th among two-year institutions, 30th overall. This ranking is up one spot overall, down two spots among two-year schools.
All Disciplines – Non-Minority, 40th among two-year institutions, 59th overall. This ranking is down one spot overall and five spots among two-year schools.
Community College Week is published biweekly in Fairfax, Va., and claims to be “the independent voice covering community, technical and junior colleges since 1988.” Throughout the history of the rankings, the publication has changed the names of categories that SCC regularly found itself.
According to the most recent data, 94 percent of graduates from SCC’s Computer Aided Design Drafting, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Precision Machining and Automation Technology, and Welding Technology programs found work or continued their education. SCC’s overall 2011-2012 job placement/continuing education rate was 94 percent.
Community College Week analyzes data from approximately 1,200 community colleges in the U.S. to compile its annual lists.
