SCC ranked 12th-best community college in U.S. by TheBestSchools.org

Southeast Community College is ranked the No. 12 community college in the United States by TheBestSchools.org, a leading higher education/career website.
The website selected the 50 best community colleges based on a comparison of several studies and ratings of community colleges, as well as the college’s reputation and a review of a large number of notable community colleges.
David Redfearn, marketing analyst for the site, said rankings and studies by the Aspen Institute, Washington Monthly, CNNMoney, and Community College Week were used to compile the list of 50 best community colleges by TheBestSchools.org.
For two consecutive years SCC has been ranked in the top 10 percent of all U.S. community colleges by the Aspen Institute. CollegeMeasures.org, in a study for CNNMoney, ranked SCC eighth in the U.S. for student success rate. And SCC ranked No. 1 in the nation eight consecutive years in Precision Production graduates by Community College Week magazine.
Dr. Jack Huck, SCC president, said the latest ranking further validated the quality of the institution. “This is more positive reinforcement of the good work we do,” Huck said. “The site is designed to assist prospective students and their parents with the college selection process. We are very pleased to be ranked so highly among the 1,300 community colleges nationwide.”
The profile that appears on the website gives a snapshot of SCC, including the district it serves, its campuses, programs, academic awards, and honors.
According to Redfearn, TheBestSchools.org is an independent organization with no ties to any other educational institution. All its editors know the academic world inside out, with some holding PhDs and having extensive experience in teaching, research and publishing at the university level.
TheBestSchools.org is dedicated to empowering prospective students with the knowledge and skills they need to achieve personal happiness and career success. The site says, “For most of us, the knowledge and skills we need to succeed require more school, typically college or university. The site goes on to say that it makes a variety of unbiased and useful resources available to students as they are deciding on schools and degree programs and advancing their education.
The general editor of TheBestSchools.org is James Barham, a native Texan who received a B.A. in Classics from the University of Texas-Austin, an M.A. in the history of science from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in the history and philosophy of science from the University of Notre Dame.
