Graduates looking to find employment might consider using the Southeast Community College Placement Center services.
SCC’s placement office is a full-service organization that assists in a student’s or graduate’s job search. Placement Specialist Lynn Willey spoke with the SCC Challenge to promote knowledge of its benefits.
“We want students to get acquainted with what we do here,” Willey spoke. She advertised that the placement office aids in mock-interviews, cover letter and resume creation as well as job searching.
“The website is reserved for currently enrolled students and graduates,” Willey noted. She went on, noting that alumni are welcome to use this service at any time. “This is a lifetime service.”
The placement office, located in room J-2 in the Lincoln Campus provides these benefits free of charge. Willey cited the activity on their website from prospective employers, citing nine hundred and seventy new jobs in the past two weeks (as of April 9). “We do a lot of work on the website to be current.”
Students and alumni can open their profile on the placement website, located at https://placement.southeast.edu/. After opening their profile and receiving approval, the prospective employee can peruse the employers that are seeking to fill positions.
Willey boasted that results have been positive, citing that three companies contact a prospective student via phone after she had found an internship. Another student removed his profile due to complaining on too many calls from prospective employers.
“The tide has kind of turned a bit,” Willey began. “There was a time employers would never have to go seek employees.”
Information for all job fairs hosted by SCC can also be found on the placement website. Willey wants students to understand that it’s “not so much about finding a job as it is networking.”
The placement office also works as a medium, managing on campus interviews as necessary. “We’re seeing more traffic in trade careers (using on campus interviews),” he observed.
Willey notes that the placement office reaches out to alumni as well by putting out an alumni newsletter. In addition, it publishes a placement report citing the amount of graduates, placement percentage and salary statistics among a report of where alumni are working.
Students or alumni seeking information on finding or preparing for a job are encouraged to set up an appointment with the placement office in room J-2 or to visit the placement website at https://placement.southeast.edu/
