High school seniors still deciding which college to attend next year will find it helpful.
So will recent high school graduates who have sat out a year or two.
Same for adult learners who maybe haven’t been in a classroom in many years.
And high school juniors? It’s the right time to explore your options beyond high school.
What is it? It’s Southeast Community College’s Open House. The five-hour block from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, takes place at all three SCC campuses: Beatrice, Lincoln and Milford.
“High school seniors are making visits to college campuses this fall, and SCC’s Open House is a great way to see what we have to offer, up close and personal,” said Dr. Jack Huck, SCC president. “Open House is open to anyone, of course.”
High school seniors and their parents will be able to get a better feel for SCC if they attend Open House. They will be able to tour programs, visit with SCC faculty and students, get information about financial aid, housing, intercollegiate athletics, and continuing education, and enter their name in a drawing for a scholarship.
Each campus will showcase the Programs of Study on their campus. A number of demonstrations are scheduled at each location, and there will be door prizes awarded throughout the day, including a Microsoft Surface with keyboard, one to be given away at each location.
Mike Pegram, dean of student services/enrollment at SCC, said the College’s Open House should provide prospective students and their parents clarity regarding their choice.
“We know there are many choices available to students,” Pegram said. “We hope that students take a little time to come to our campuses and explore what we have to offer. SCC is a tremendous value for the investment. Ninety-four percent of our 2012-2013 graduates found work or continued their education. And at $56.75 (tuition and fees) per quarter credit hour, SCC remains affordable.”
Pegram also said that Open House is an opportunity for adult learners who are looking to change careers or gain additional skills for their current occupation.
“Going back to school, particularly if you’ve been out for a number of years, can be uncomfortable for some,” Pegram said. “But we have services in place to make the educational experience comfortable and inviting. We welcome adult learners and believe they are a valuable addition to the classroom and laboratory settings. Adult learners succeed at SCC.”
Reservations for Open House are not required.
