Did you know that the National Park Service’s Midwest Archeological Center is located in Lincoln?
Southeast Community College is offering a course titled “America’s Best Idea: Get to Know Your National Parks.” The class will run from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursdays from April 4-18 at SCC’s Continuing Education Center, 301 S. 68th St. Place, Lincoln. Cost is $29 per person. Jay Sturdevant, archeologist with the National Park Service in Lincoln, is the instructor.

Sturdevant will introduce participants to the national park concept and the parks that reflect our national heritage that are within a day’s drive of Lincoln.
Each class will focus on the archeology, history and natural wonders of parks from America’s heartland. Participants will discover new insights into Midwestern parks that will enhance visits and expand knowledge of American’s heritage.
There are 398 areas in the National Park System, 58 of which are national parks. There are 18,000 miles of water and land trails that cover the park areas. And there is 84 million acres of land preserved in national park areas.
