Whether you run or walk, participation in Southeast Community College’s first-ever Powder Storm 5k Run/Walk will assist a worthy cause.
Participants should prepare to be powdered from head to toe at each powder station throughout the run/walk, set for Saturday, April 27, at SCC’s Lincoln Campus, 8800 O St. Late registration/check-in is from 7-8:30 a.m. at the picnic shelter on campus. The run/walk begins at 9 a.m.
Registration fee is $25 if postmarked by April 10, $30 per participant if postmarked on April 11 or after. Registration forms are available in SCC’s Lincoln Campus Wellness Center and Student Center. Registrations must be returned to Brett Ducker, fitness and wellness coordinator at SCC, at 8800 O St., Lincoln, NE 68520.
The entry fee includes a prize and post-race refreshments.
Proceeds from the event will go toward SCC’s Global Education Elementary School improvement project in Haiti. The run/walk is being sponsored by the Lincoln CampusStudent Senate, Phi Theta Kappa and Enactus.
Ducker explained the use of powder during the event.
“The idea of the powder run is to station volunteers along the course and have them toss colored powder at participants as they run by, essentially tie-dying their white shirts,” Ducker said. “I can’t stress the fun part enough. We encourage participants to invite their friends and family out and enjoy an exciting and innovative way to exercise here on the Lincoln Campus.”
Ducker said the funds from the event will go toward a good cause.
“Improvement of an elementary school in Haiti is a great cause,” Ducker said. “I would be thrilled if we could raise somewhere near $2,000 in support of this cause, but anything helps.”
Ducker said donations also will be accepted (cash or check only) and can be sent to Ducker at 8800 O St.
