Southeast Community College is holding its first-ever SCC Golf Fundraiser to benefit the men’s and women’sbasketball teams and men’s baseball team.
The event is scheduled for Sept. 21 at Hidden Acres Golf Course just southwest of Beatrice. The four-person scramble begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Check-in is at 8 a.m. Cost is $60 per person or $240 per team and includes golf, a meal, pin prizes, and a longest drive contest on the course. Persons who register as individuals will be placed on a team.
Registration deadline is Sept. 13 or when the limit has been met. To register, contact Kelly Morgan at 402-228-8244. Make checks payable to SCC Continuing Education Division.
Hidden Acres Golf Course is located at 5536 W. Lilac Road, Beatrice.
Vicki Wooton, head women’s basketball coach, said funds raised would go toward student-athlete scholarships and some equipment for the three teams. Since SCC competes in Division II of the National Junior College Athletic Association, the maximum scholarship it can award is tuition, books and fees. That means all players must pay room and board, and most Storm athletes are not on a maximum scholarship. Walk-on athletes also play key roles on SCC athletic teams, and most of those student-athletes do not receive much in the way of scholarship dollars.
