Shortly after Southeast Men’s Golf Team shot a school record 570 (292/278) at the Region 9 Tournament, the national rankings were released, placing the Beatrice junior college second in the nation.
This means they will be paired with prohibitive favorite and defending champion South Mountain Community College, from Phoenix, Arizona in the first two rounds along with Owens Community College.
“Rankings mean very little,” said Head Coach Bill Campbell. “Ball striking, course management, holing putts and luck are tangibles that mean something.”
“We are excited to be paired with South Mountain,” he added. “I hope we are not intimated.”
Southeast rode freshman Liam Chambers’ eight under 73/63 and UNL recruit Calvin Freeman’s two under performance to post the school record at the regionals held in Sterling, Colo., at the Northeastern 18 Golf Club.
The 72-hole national tournament runs May 21-24, in Scottsboro, Alabama, at Goose Pond Colony Golf Course.
“We want to play well and take care of our business,” Campbell offered. “We can’t worry about anyone else.”
